""The Golden Temple"" is a location in "Fear & Hunger" which is accessible after obtaining The Tormented Soul, The Endless Soul, and The Enlightened Soul, and leads to an endgame location.
Gameplay
In order to access the Golden Temple, the player must acquire the Tormented Soul, Endless Soul, and Enlightened Soul. This can be done by defeating the New Gods in Ma'habre, using an empty scroll, or by killing a playable character associated with one of the souls and using a soul stone on their corpse. Afterwards, the player must speak with the Nameless Figure in Present Ma'habre and defeat it in order to enter the temple. Inside, the player may speak with an aged Francóis, who will give them the King's Passage Key. After the player has walked past Francóis, he will release three jaggedjaws; however, they can easily be avoided by walking straight to the throne room without stopping. Inside the present throne room, the player can find and slash one of the hearts of the God of the Depths, which is required for two of the game's main endings. Alternatively, the player can simply use an empty scroll to obtain the King's Passage Key and bypass having to fight any bosses or enter the temple in the present.
After obtaining the King's Passage Key, the player can return to Past Ma'habre and unlock the Golden Temple. In the past version of the temple, there are timed fire traps which will instantly kill the player if stepped on while active. Inside the throne room, the player must defeat Francóis in his prime in order to gain access to the Throne of Ascension. Sitting on the throne will transport the player and their party to The Void, where two more of the game's main endings can be achieved.
Trivia
| Warning! Speculation ahead!
Information below is hinted on, but wasn't directly confirmed in-game. |
- The Throne present in the Temple shares similarities with the statue of Sylvian found in the mines, such as its architectural style and also reused assets. The lizardmen likely held control of Ma'habre and by extension, the Throne, long before humanity arose. Their traces can be seen throughout the dungeons; considering also the blights seen in The Void and the dialogue about them from The Hall of the Gods, it's highly likely they had some sort of regime before the current New Gods.
