Battle Theme

The Bloody man is an enemy encountered in Fear & Hunger. They act as stronger, late-game equivalents to Ghouls, but cannot be resurrected by the player with Necromancy, as their flesh is too weak to stand.

Lore

Those whose physical and mental fortitude couldn’t hand the ever-pressing darkness. They lost their mind.
- The New Gods when asked about Ghouls.

Like Ghouls, The Bloody man is a product of necromancy, and can be destroyed by telling him this. New Gods give no information on the Bloody man, though it can be gathered that they were likely members of Ma'habre society or perhaps even older New Gods which were buried in the Tombs of the Gods.

Location

Many Bloody man units can be found in the present-day Tombs of the Gods, crawling out of large holes within the walls when the player gets near.

Strategy

The bloody man can be easily killed by talking to them and picking "What is your origin?" the first time and "You are but a product of Necromancy!" the second time, killing them instantly. If Counter-magic is used, it can be used to undo the magic that keeps the Ghoul alive, also killing them instantly.

Ghouls can continue fighting without their heads, so the best strategy if not using Talk or Counter-magic is just to focus damage on the torso. Of note, Bloody men (unlike Ghouls) appear to swing with all available limbs once before dying even if their torso is killed. If you have enough party members, taking out their damaging bits is preferable.

Dialogues

Talk

  • You try talking to this wretched soul...
    • Player: “What is your origin?”
      • Bloody Man: “..... So long...”
        • The bloody man slurs something in uncertainty...
        • The bloody man seems to be a dead man standing. Brought to life by some wicked magic.
        • It seems like there is only a fragile belief in life keeping the ghoul on it's feet. You might be able shake the belief fairly easily.
    • Player: “There is no need for killing.”
      • The bloody man doesn't seem to respond to your talking in any way...
    • Player: “Prepare to die.”
      • Bloody Man: “There is... only... blood.”
  • After choosing "What is your origin?" and talking again:
    • Player: “You are but a product of Necromancy!”
      • Bloody Man: “.... What are... you... talking...?” The spell that kept the prisoner standing seems to fade...

Counter-magic

  • You disrupt the necromancy that was keeping the ghoul alive with your Counter-magic mantra!
      • Bloody man: “Argh...”
  • ' 'The ghoul falls limp on the ground without it's soul.
