The Embryo is an enemy encountered in Fear & Hunger.

Lore

"Valteil the enlightened one has succumbed to fleshy delights with his own creations. Embryos are the bastardizations that came from that act."
- The New Gods when asked about the Embryo.

Valteil's exploration of the creation of artificial life led him to the development of Uterus, which bore an embedded Embryo. Once emerged from its caregiver, it shows seemingly more sentience as it is seen to have a soul, while the Uterus does not.

Warning! Speculation ahead!

Information below is hinted on, but wasn't directly confirmed in-game.

The Embryo also shows other signs of being a more developed artificial life form, such as either requiring or at least being able to consume nutrients, as seen with two of them feasting on the corpse of a Uterus.

Location

3 Embryo can be found located on the second floor of the Grand Library in Ma'habre. One can be found roaming on the left hand side while two more can be found on the right hand side feasting upon the corpse of a Uterus in the room with the Ma'habre's device and will turn hostile if the player is to get too close.

When fighting the Uterus, an Embryo will eventually be birthed if the fight takes too long, but those are treated as body parts of the Uterus instead of separate entities.

Strategy

The Embryo dishes out damage with its dagger via two different attacks those being Regular stab and Critical stabs. Critical stabs being the most threatening as it attacks twice and will leave the player with the Critical state status effect. It is best to attempt to dish out the 900 damage needed to kill the Embyro within the first turn as afterwards the Embryo may let out a cry for help which will cause another Embryo to join into the battle and up to 2 extra Embyro can be called into the battle at once by the head Embyro.
