The Lizardman is an enemy encountered in Fear & Hunger.

Long ago, before men took the dungeons as their own, there dwelled a different race in the black.
- The New Gods when asked about the Lizardman.

The actual dungeons themselves are but one part of the underground structure; races such as the Lizardmen lived in the underground before many of the man-made structures were created. They are openly hostile towards humans, and are known to kill their prey by skinning them alive. They love combat, judging by the way they grin when threatened, bang their shields when challenged, and will forgo using their weapons to show off their martial arts.

Despite their bestial nature, the Lizardmen can be encountered in man-made locations, some with magical/divine origins, such as Nas'hrah's blood pit and Nosramus' secret hideout. The blood pit is full of corpses that are being used for a blood ritual by Nas'hrah, and Nosramus' hideout contains piles of corpses and the hanging bodies of humans that have been skinned alive. It seems that these mystical people are leveraging the natural violence of the Lizardmen for their own purposes. Nas'hrah would be able to utilize fresh corpses to get blood for his ritual, but it is unclear if Nosramus directly benefits from the Lizardmen's skinning technique or simply uses this location as a hideout.

The Lizardman have a chance to spawn in two locations in the main path - at the top of the level 2 blood pit and in the central area in the level 7 mines. Two also always appear in the secret area behind the Salmonsnake pond.

There are a few strategies for the lizardman:

  • Using a bear trap to cripple the lizardman's legs, making their head vulnerable on the first turn
  • Hit and run to avoid getting counter attacked
  • Throwing a Priest's lantern at his head or using a Murky vial
  • Rushing his torso if you have sufficient damage

  • You try talking some sense to this monstrosity...
    • Player: “What is your origin?”
      • Lizardman: “...”
      • He seems to look at you with eyes of pity.
    • Player: “There is no need for killing.”
      • Lizardman: “...”
      • Without saying anything, the creature prepares for an attack...
    • Player: “I'll crush you like a newt!”
      • Lizardman: “...”
      • A wide crocodile grin spreads on his face.
    • Player: “Between two warriors - let's make this one count!”
      • Lizardman: “...”
      • The lizardman is bashing his shield as a sign for battle."

When shielding:

  • Lizardman rises his shield in defence!

Death sequence

If the player is defeated, there is a chance that they will be taken to a secret part of the Mines behind the Salmonsnake boss instead of getting a normal game over. This unique death starts with all of your limbs disabled. After a moment, a Lizardman will enter the room and flay the character alive, resulting in heavy bleeding and eventually a painful death. Though the player can crawl around for a few seconds after this, the menu cannot be opened and they will die.

The lizard man is a possible reference to darks souls 1's man serpent due to the similar name and features. Additionally, The Spidershield also looks similar to the shield of the same name from the franchise.
