Battle Theme |

The Priest is an enemy encountered in Fear & Hunger.
Lore
These Dark Priests were attracted to the dungeons of fear and hunger, driven by their holy pilgrimage. Documents attest to official orders permitting cultists to conduct their wicked rituals within the dungeons. Reports also recount instances of guards and prisoners falling victim to sacrificial acts carried out by Dark Priests prior to the game's events. However, it remains uncertain whether these are the same priests as those encountered during their pilgrimage.
Warning! Speculation ahead!
Information below is hinted on, but wasn't directly confirmed in-game. |
While these Priests refrain from assaulting individuals donning similar attire, they display no hesitation in attacking Enki, a fellow Dark Priest, implying the presence of distinct factions within their ranks.
Location
Priests can be found in Level 1 - Inner hall. Two are right next to a statue with a crucified man on it, and another one may be found close by depending on which map was generated at the start of the run. Priests will not move, and will only attack if spoken to or walked into.
If one is equipped with the Priest's robe, the Priests will not be hostile, providing the player with information instead: one of them can share his knowledge about the gods, while another will explain the use of Empty scrolls.
Additionally, two non-hostile Priests can be found within the dream sequence of Rondon triggered by sleeping at the Tower of Endless in Ma'habre, standing idle after witnessing Enki's ceremony. If the protagonist is wearing the Priest's robe, they can receive x1 Opium powder and x1 Empty scroll from these Priests through conversation.

Strategy
They have a coin flip attack on the fourth turn, which can be interrupted by talking to them or using Counter-magic on that turn. They will attempt to use it every other turn after that. If fighting the pair of Priests, only the Priest on the left will use the coin flip attack.
It is recommended to target their right arms before attacking the torso. If any of the player's party members get set on fire, they can escape the fight to put extinguish themselves and re-engage with the Priests.
Dialogues
Upon being touched in the overworld
- Priest: "They will create an idol out of our fears!"
Talk
- You try starting a conversation...
- Player: “What is your origin?”
- Priest: “I am but a wretched being on a holy pilgrimage.”
- Priest: “All the priests of the western world dream of delving down these dungeons.”
- Player: “Which god do you serve?”
- Priest: “We serve all the gods. Despite the common folk blaming the dark times on the older gods, we also value their teachings.”
- Priest: “Gro-goroth, Sylvian or Alll-mer the ascended one. The original destroyers and creators.”
- Player: “Gro-goroth...”
- Priest: “Gro-goroth. He who is followed by death and destruction.”
- Player: “Sylvian...”
- Priest: “The goddess... She is the opposite to Gro-goroth and brings forth new life and love.”
- Player: “The ascended one...”
- Priest: “He who died for our sins...”
- Priest: “He who binds us all together...”
- Player: “New gods...”
- Priest: “Roughly 800 years ago mankind decided to take the reins in their own hands. We had suffered long enough because of the neglect of the older gods.”
- Priest: “New gods will bring us closer to the paradise...”
- Player: “Gro-goroth...”
- Player: “What are these dungeons?”
- Priest: “The dungeons of fear and hunger. A nexus for different planes of existance.”
- Priest: “These dungeons are one of the last places where a man can still meet his creators.”
- Player: “Prepare to die!”
- Priest: “My work here is not done yet.”
- Player: “What is your origin?”
- If it is a coin flip turn:
- Priest: “Do not disturb my chanting!”
- Priest: “You are ruining the summoning!”
Counter-magic
- You interrupt priest from his chant and summoning with your Counter-magic mantra!
- Priest: “You are another priest of destruction it seems...”
