The Prisoner (Ground) is a unique ghoul enemy encountered in Fear & Hunger, as well as a potential party member for a player who is able to use Necromancy. He is a weaker variant of the regular Prisoner.
Lore
This man was one of the guards enlisted by the Kingdom of Rondon to serve within the prisons of the dungeons of fear and hunger.
As the madness emanating from the dungeons began to diffuse, these very guards who patrolled its corridors would inevitably fall prey to its influences. Those who evaded the clutches of death at the hands of the Dark Priests would eventually find themselves succumbing to the madness and committing horrors against each other.
In a desperate bid to escape this gruesome fate, this man chose to lock himself away and met his end through starvation. It is possible that the Dark Priests later discovered his lifeless form and, through their unholy rituals, reanimated him as a ghoul.
Location
This enemy can be found crawling around one of the cells of the Prisons.
Recruitment
This is one of the few enemies that can be recruited as a ghoul through the use of Necromancy after being defeated in battle. As it is custom to resurrected characters, he can be named by the player as they wish and is identical to other recruitable Ghouls in the game, meaning he is AI-controlled and cannot wear any equipment.

Strategy
As the other Ghouls, he can easily be defeated with the Talk skill. Choosing the "Prepare to die!" option will cause him to surrender. Alternatively, picking "What is your origin?" followed by "You are but a product of Necromancy!" will kill him instantly. If the protagonist has the Counter-magic skill, it can be used to undo the magic that keeps the enemy alive, killing him immediately.
He can continue fighting without his head, so the best strategy if not using Talk or Counter-magic is just to focus damage on the torso.
This variant is much weaker than the regular Prisoner, and can easily be rendered harmless by removing his right arm, as he cannot attack with his other limb.
Trivia
- According to the game's project file, this character is named Geringo. Game creator Miro Haverinen has revealed that this name is a component of the character's obscured backstory, even though it does not surface during gameplay, as the Ghouls were originally intended to be named by the player.
