The Guard (Infected) is a unique enemy encountered in Fear & Hunger.. He is a rarer variation of the regular Guard.

Lore

The Guard patrolling the Catacombs might have stumbled upon a Brain Flower - now firmly affixed to his shoulder, the plant relies on him as its lifeline. Upon observing the Guard's altered appearance, with bulging veins and an unsettling, uncontrolled drool, it becomes evident that this Brain Flower has assumed control over the man, compelling him to carry out its whims.

Location

At each start of a playthrough, there is a 50% chance that the regular Guard encountered at Level 7 - Catacombs may replaced by this pollinated version. He will chase the player even if they are wearing the Guard outfit, possibly due to the effects of the brain flower.

Strategy

The infected Guard will use his right arm to initiate a coin flip attack every three turns, starting on the second turn. If the coin flip fails, he will use Mad rush, dealing 19-25 damage five times to a single character, most likely resulting in death.

It is recommended to cut off the left arm on the first turn and then cut off the stinger after guarding on the second turn. Cutting off both arms will make him use Tackle, dealing 16-25 blunt damage each turn, so the player should leave the right arm and just Guard on the appropriate turns while attacking the torso.

The Guard will sometimes use Stinger Thrust with his stinger, which deals 36-54 piercing damage.

The Brain flower will use Pollen every turn, which will infect the target and cause them to attack anyone with -50% hit rate. It is not recommended to fight an infected Guard without additional party members to take out the Brain flower on the first turn.

Arm guards are a good defensive option in case the player misses on the first turn.
