The Skin Granny is an important boss encounter in Fear & Hunger.

Lore

A myth passed on by the wildmen of the north and those who live in Oldegård and it’s surrounding areas. The myth if typically told to new generations as a cautionary tale on what happens if you abandon your family and leave for greener pastures. The black is said to creep from the dark corners of your home cabin, slowly nibbling the form of your beloved ones. The creature is of course just a myth, but the tale lives on strong in the consciousness of the northern folk and often in nightmares the creature has a vivid presence.
- New gods about the Skin Granny.

The Skin Granny seems to be based around a myth that is passed around in the northern parts of the world, particularly Oldegård. It is said that the creature vividly lives in the dreams of the northern folk. As the dream sequence in the Tower of the Endless shows perspectives of all the four main characters, it is possible that she was dreamed up by Ragnvaldr. She could also be a dream puppet, made by the New God Nilvan to be an obstacle to test if the protagonist is worthy of her Endless soul.

Location & Behaviour

She is encountered at the end of the dream sequence in the Tower of Endless in Ma'habre. When entering the house at the end of the dream sequence after seeing the last of Ragnvaldr's memories, the player will briefly see the skin granny turning, before starting a battle. The player is noted with the text 'You get ominous vibes from the old lady in the darkness...'

Strategy

The first turn form of Skin Granny takes 115% damage from the Slashing damage type. The subsequent form of Skin Granny takes 115% damage from the Fire damage type.

While the Skin Granny may seem harmless at first, she is actually an extremely dangerous encounter, based on how prepared the player is. After her first turn, she will reveal her true form, consisting of three arms, two legs, and a menacingly smiling head. The player is noted 'Skin granny changed shape!' when this happens. It is therefore best to use the first turn to prepare for the fight to come.

As has been said, in her true form, the Skin Granny has five limbs that can be targeted: her three arms, two legs, and the arm behind her head. It is important to focus on the hands first, as they use needles for stabbing attacks and may cause critical damage and severe physical trauma. Her feet, while dangerous, only offer mild kicks with no status effects.

At the 3rd turn, the player will notice the text 'Skin granny is flexing its fingers...' it means her coin flip lethal attack will start to begin within the next turn. It's from her middle arm, above her head. The player either has to take it out quickly or face a lethal coin toss that could end with the player's death. This leads to a unique sequence, where the player's face is ripped off (described in text) and then, for a brief moment, skin granny's sprite changes to that of the player's stretched face before the player dies. Wearing the Iron mask prevents the coinflip attack from outright killing the affected party member.

At the end of the dream, the player has to make a choice - whether or not to accept the 'gift' from the Endless One.

Dialogue
