This page is about the Fear & Hunger mode version of the enemy. For the Masoχ-S/M mode version of Platoon, see Platoon (Masoχ-S/M).

The Platoon and Sylvian Trooper are a boss encountered in Fear & Hunger 2: Termina.

Lore

Platoon

A grotesque, malformed humanoid head attached to a cannon, walking on all fours and seemingly amalgamated from multiple human bodies, the Platoon bears a resemblance to the more grotesque results of the Marriage of Flesh ritual conducted in reverence of the Old God Sylvian in the past. It lacks the capacity for speech, yet hints of understanding flicker within the many heads and faces combined in the Platoon's form.

Sylvian Trooper

The Sylvian Trooper is a female officer from the Bremen Army. She is apparently aware of the Kaiser's true plans and believes her time is coming to a close, as there is no need for people on said plans' new world. She however fights the player character anyway, for a "last thrill ride". It is implied through her dialogue in-battle that she either witnessed or participated in the bloodshed caused by previous iterations of the Termina Festival between the officers from Bremen at Prehevil.

As her name states, she is likely a worshipper of the old god Sylvian, which probably influenced her seductive behaviour and provocative choice of clothing. Additionally, the rabbit ears she sports resemble the face ornament wore by Bunnymasks, a sect of Sylvian worshippers.

Warning! Speculation ahead!

Information below is hinted on, but wasn't directly confirmed in-game.

As her physical appearance displays slightly unusual proportions, this could potentially suggest that her current body is a result of a Marriage of Flesh ritual, one of the known practices of Sylvian.

Location & Behaviour

The Platoon and Sylvian Trooper will be third level in the White Bunker. If the player runs into the Sylvian Trooper before she finishes walking it will begin the fight without the Platoon immediately present, otherwise the player will have to wait until the Platoon approaches with the Sylvian Trooper on it.

Catching and killing the Sylvian Trooper on the first turn will cause Platoon's body from the cutscene to stay near the exit of the third level, blocking the middle tile of the exit.

Another Platoon (Masoχ-S/M) will appear in Masoχ-S/M mode.

Strategy

Fear & Hunger Mode

Can be avoided if the player ambushes the Sylvian Trooper by catching up to her and kills her in the first turn.

Thematic to the Platoon being a tank engine entity, it sports an absolutely massive health pool. While the Sylvian Trooper is still alive, she will whip the player to inflict Bleeding. She will also force the Platoon to initiate a coin flip attack every other turn, otherwise, it has a 50% chance of using it every turn. If the player fails the coin flip, the Platoon will shoot the main character unless Pheromones has been used, causing 160-240 damage. Without the Hardened heart, it will essentially serve as an instant kill move. If the player succeeds with the coin flip or the Platoon doesn't initiate one, it will instead charge at the player for 40-60 blunt damage.

Dialogues

Battle start (If player caught up to Sylvian Trooper)

  • Sylvian Trooper: “Hm. Aren't you impatient.”

Talk

  • Sylvian Trooper: “...” The sylvian trooper just whips her whip and points towards you.
    • Player: [PERSUADE] “You've seen the carnage, why continue serving the army?”
      • Sylvian Trooper: “You gave the answer yourself already. Our time is coming to a close. There is no need for us in the new world. This is our one last thrill ride. We get to dance in the red rain one last time.”
    • Player: [INTIMIDATE] “This deep no one will hear you scream.”
      • Sylvian Trooper: “Is that a promise~?”
    • Player: “The war is over, we don't need to do this!”
      • Sylvian Trooper: The sylvian trooper tilts her head slightly and takes a mocking stance. “The war might be over but Kaiser gave us this one last thrill ride. Let's make it count, shall we~?”
    • Player: “What is this bunker?”
      • Sylvian Trooper: “From the blood soaked soil a new sprout rises. Exciting, isn't it~?”
    • Player: “Prepared to die, soldier?”
      • Sylvian Trooper: “Always. You?”

If Sylvian Trooper is dead:

  • Platoon: “Grroumph... groumph...” The platoon doesn't seem to be capable of speech. You can however see a glimmer of understanding in the various heads and faces you see joint in this tangled mess.

If Daan is in the party:
“It's hard to tell where the latex suit ends and the trooper begins, but the skin tight outfit does reveal the muscular physique of this person. There is some slightly uncanny about her proportions, but she definitely is one of the more 'normal' foes we've faced so far. That's refreshing I guess?”

Trivia

  • The Platoon and Sylvian Trooper pair were one of the winners in a monster design contest held in the official Discord channel for the series. It was designed by Fear & Hunger Discord user vladstori.
    • The original design was named Spank tank, which is also the name the Platoon's image has in game files.
