Dismemberment is a mechanic present in Fear & Hunger and Fear & Hunger 2: Termina in which party members can lose their limbs creating a frequent sense of danger. The player can also take advantage of dismemberment to remove the Infected arm and the Infected leg status effects.

Dismemberment in Fear & Hunger

Playable characters in the party can be dismembered during combat, or from hazards in the overworld. The player can also choose to cut off limbs from party members using a Bonesaw.

Playable and recruitable characters have 2 arms and 2 legs, with two exceptions: Moonless has paws, while Nas'hrah has no limbs.

Missing arms are reflected in the overworld and in the character's portrait, with a bandage covering the stumps.

There are two ways to regain lost limbs:

  • Marriage of flesh - The player can perform this ritual with another party member, turning the player character into a Marriage, who has all 4 limbs intact.
  • Favor from Lady of Moon - This restores all limbs to the player's party.

There are also five ways to protect from the dismemberment:

Losing an arm:

Any hostile party member's Miasma attack.

Losing a leg:

D'arce's Leg sweep attack.

Stepping on the bear trap.

Dismemberment in Fear & Hunger 2: Termina

Playable and recruitable characters have 2 arms and 2 legs, except for Black Kalev, who has hooves. Olivia uses a wheelchair to get around, relying entirely on her arms. If she is chosen as the player character, losing an arm will have more severe consequences. However, as a recruited character, she suffers the same penalties from limb loss as other recruited humans.
