Strategy

Fear & Hunger Mode

Compared to the other villagers, the Pipe Villager is the strongest not only because of the 750 torso hp but also because his pipe deals a lot of damage with a small chance to stun.
The best way to deal with Pipe villagers is to get a party member and remove the legs and then attack the head.

  • If you have no party members nor extra turns then its better to not fight them until you are ready. Killing the right arm might take more than one turn and if you got stunned from the pipe while a bear trap is present you wont be able to Guard it and you will lose both legs.

Masoχ-S/M Mode

In Masoχ-S/M mode fighting the Pipe Villagers is not worth it at all seeing how much damage they can deal and how tanky they are.
It's actually worth shooting them in the overworld if you got cornered by them, otherwise just don't fight them.

  • If you somehow got caught by a Pipe Villager and had no choice but to fight then attack the legs and then the head while guarding when the Bear trap is present, This will make you take a lot of damage but it is the best way to kill them solo and without a good weapon.

Dialogues

Battle start

  • The villager approaches fast with a rusty pipe raised as a weapon. All of his muscles seem to tense up in the heat of an attack!
    • Player: “Hold on! I don't want to start a fight!”
      • Your words are in vain. The villager is clearly out for blood.
    • Player: “What is going on here!?”
      • Your words are in vain. The villager is clearly out for blood.
    • Player: “I'm ready to defend myself, just so you know.”
      • Your words are in vain. The villager is clearly out for blood.

Talk

  • Villager: “...”
    • Player: [PERSUADE] “I'm just passing through. I didn't mean to disturb.”
      • Villager: “...” The villager seems confused by your non-aggressive approach. He doesn't seem as determined in his attacks anymore... (+Attack drop)
      • If repeated:
      • Villager: “...” The same talk doesn't seem to affect the villager anymore. (-Attack drop)
    • Player: [INTIMIDATE] “You're going to regret ever stepping on my path.”
      • He takes one more step. Your intimidation tactics just made the villager more defiant and furious. His attacks became more erratic as well. He's swinging his pipe wildly without much accuracy. (+Furious)
      • If repeated:
      • He takes one more step.
    • Player: “No one needs to get hurt...”
      • Villager: “...” The villager seems to be really stressed out. He avoids your gaze by fixating on your feet.
        • Player: “You don't want to do this.”
          • The villager might be insecure, but determinedly he continues his attack. Your pleads don't seem to work.
        • Player: “Let's have it your way.”
          • The villager might be insecure, but determinedly he continues his attack. Your pleads don't seem to work.
        • Player: “...”
    • Player: “One more step and you're dead.”
      • He takes one more step.
    • Player: Nevermind

Trivia

  • Work of Francis Bacon heavily influenced the final design of villagers and rifleman.
  • The villagers have their faces twisted by the moonscorch, and all have a clear partition in the middle of the face that resembles Rher's half moon depiction in his Skin Bible or Needles's face paint.
