The Soldier is a unique enemy encountered in Fear & Hunger 2: Termina., as well as a potential party member.

Lore

One of the few survivors of a previous Festival of Termina, he is losing his last strands of sanity and wanders aimlessly around the ruined streets of Prehevil.

He was among the Bremen forces deployed to Prehevil after the peace treaty for the Second Great War was signed. Sent by the Kaiser himself to secure the city, these soldiers were visited by Per'kele in their dreams and forced to take part in Rher's Festival of Termina soon after arriving.

During the Festival, he was responsible for the death of his superiors, and while most of his comrades were either victims of the bloodshed or succumbed to the chaos, he still holds some degree of coherence and is aware that his three-day limit is coming to an end even with his mind deteriorating at a rapid rate.

Location & Recruitment

The Soldier can be recruited by using Necromancy on their corpse.

Using Necromancy on the Soldier in Prehevil - Ruined Streets will cause the Soldier in Tunnel 7 to disappear until the player uses Necromancy on the Soldier in Old Town - Mayor's Manor. (Bug)

The Soldiers in Prehevil - Ruined Streets and Old Town - Mayor's Manor attempt to add the same actor to the party, meaning they will replace each other. (Bug)

Strategy

Fear & Hunger Mode

As soon as the battle starts, the soldier will use Point blank, a coin-flip move that lets him target the player party before the first turn takes place. His right arm holds a gun - which he will use to attack with Shoot, a low-damage move that can cause bleeding. His only other move is Tackle, that he will use if his right arm is severed.

Talk

  • The soldier is trying to hide his face behind his palm. He clearly isn't ready to start a conversation.
  • If left arm is removed:
  • Soldier: “... You are new... What do you want?”
    • Player: [PERSUADE] “You don't have to follow anyone's orders anymore!”
      • Soldier: “I'm not. My superiors are no where to be found... We are participants in the festival... This must be done.”
        • Player: “But aren't you just following the orders of the moon then?”
          • Soldier: “... No... This is my choice...” You planted a seed of doubt into the soldier's mind. His aggression seems to waver... (+Attack drop)
        • Player: “What would your superiors say about that?”
          • Soldier: “They said the same to me before I put a bullet into their temple...”
      • If repeated:
      • Soldier: “You are just trying to make me second guess my intentions. I see through you now...”
    • Player: [INTIMIDATE] “I hope you're ready for the execution row, soldier.”
      • Soldier: “We are all on the execution row... Since the moment we stepped inside the borders of this wicked town.”
        • Player: “Makes my job easier if you've given up already.”
          • Soldier: “You are walking in my footsteps... No use talking big.”
        • Player: “Why even struggle then?”
          • Soldier: “...” The soldier's eyes become glassy as he stares into the distance... (+Hesitation)
      • If repeated:
      • Soldier: “We are all on the execution row... Since the moment we stepped inside the borders of this wicked town.”
    • Player: “What happened here?”
      • Soldier: “We came here... We got the orders straight from the Kaiser himself. But it was a mistake... Now everyone's dead or worse...”
        • Player: “What's worse than dead?”
          • Soldier: “You must have seen the residents of this godforsaken place. That fate awaits us all... My comrades already succumbed to the chaos. My skin is still pretty, but... My mind is deteriorating at a rapid rate. Three days is the limit... Just like what 'he' said.”
        • Player: “Why did you come here?”
          • Soldier: “To secure the city... There is something brewing under the ground...”
    • Player: “We don't need to fight!”
      • Soldier: “You are wrong... That's exactly what is expected from everyone who takes part in this...”
    • Player: “Stay back, or else...”
      • Soldier: “Or else either one of us dies... Yes...”
    • Player: Nevermind

Player:
“The soldier looks physically healthy, but his skin is very dry. Unnaturally so. Parts of it are almost glossy because of the hardened flakes on his face. His eyes are also dim. They almost look like the person would suffer from cataract, but it would make no sense to have someone like that in the army, so it could be something else entirely... The soldier is only protected against fire and slashing attacks, but that has more to do with his uniform rather than his physique.”
If Daan is in the party:
