Battle Theme

Ronteal is an enemy encountered in Fear & Hunger 2: Termina.

Lore

An enigmatic entity with a hollow form, dwelling within the shadows and bearing no resemblance to any earthly life. Myths of Ronteal have traversed countless generations, each tale different from the other. Legend has it that Ronteal emerges initially within the realm of nightmares, using the fear it evokes to manifest its presence in the physical world. Both male and female incarnations of Ronteal are said to exist, even though all the ones encountered in Prehevil are female.

Location

Ronteals can be found in Rher's alternate dimension, accessible through ritual circles with Rher's sigil drawn on them. They appear in the majority, but not all alternate dimensions accessible through Rher’s sigil.

Strategy

Ronteals initially appear buried up to their necks in dirt with only their mouth heads exposed, looking similar to a venus flytrap. If the player approaches, the Ronteal will crawl out of its hole and give chase. However, they are easily outran and can be avoided with just a bit of sprinting.

Ronteal can be felled with 2-3 strikes to the torso with a weapon that is better than the knife. If the player cannot do this, it's recommended to attack the arms, as they can easily dismember your party.

In the orphanage Rher dimension some of the Ronteals will spawn without arms, making them significantly less challenging to take down, even with only one party member.

The pits that Ronteals emerge from can be dug up to collect rusty pearls, which can be traded to The Radiating One.

  • A lone ronteal keeps on closing in on you...
    • Player: [PERSUADE] “If there's any humanity left in you, please hear me out!”
      • Your pleads have no effect. Maybe there never was humanity here to begin with...
    • Player: [INTIMIDATE] “Don't care what you are. All living things understand pain.”
      • Your threats have absolutely no effect. It feels like the creature's mind works on another plane entirely.
    • Player: “Please just stop...”

The creature seems vulnerable to most physical attacks. Only blunt attacks might just sink in with the physique of the creature and thus not cause any real damage.”
If Daan is in the party:
“The creature's body feels hollow. It feels like a half-empty bag of potatos, with the potatos halfway through decomposing. It even smells like that. Trivia

  • Ronteal's design and name were originally created by Fear & Hunger Discord user Chester.
    • Chester's original design lacked both the female features and the pendulum blade arms, but if one cuts off the arms of a Ronteal, the stubbier blades from Chester's design are revealed.
  • Considering how easily one of these creatures can pop out of the wooden floor and the floor itself seemingly giving way to it like something coming out of water, one can think that the Tunnel 7, Level 2 area might be a dreamlike area, or under Rher's influence directly.
  • Once you prompt a Ronteal to emerge from its burrow and then depart from the area, the burrow will no longer be interactable, preventing you from collecting a rust-colored pearl thereafter.
