The Cocoon is a Boss encountered in Fear & Hunger 2: Termina. If not dealt with properly, Marina will turn into Cocoon due to Moonscorch on Day 3 Night.

Lore

Marina's moonscorched state has noticeable resemblances to her human form, albeit with distinct alterations. Additional limbs sprout from her body, and her former head and torso meld together within a cocoon-like structure. A new human head emerges from her groin region, connected to the cocoon by a leash. Despite hesitance, Marina is compelled to engage in combat, seemingly guided by the cocoon that she identifies as her father.

Information below is hinted on, but wasn't directly confirmed in-game.

Marina's background story offers a multitude of interpretations regarding the symbolism behind her moonscorched form. The presence of the cocoon, whether it is formed by the deceased Father Domek's remains or not, could serve as a representation of her enduring concerns and anxieties about her father. The emergence of a new head from beneath her skirt could symbolize her father's imposition of a masculine social role upon her, one that he believed she should have embraced. This interpretation could also explain why the cocoon occupies the space where Marina's own head once resided, illustrating how even in death, Father Domek exerts control over her.

Location

  • Cocoon can be found in the basement passageway of Church of Alll-mer
    • Will only appear if Marina wasn't recruited or killed by Day 3 Night

Strategy

Fear & Hunger Mode

The first turn of the fight is a free turn where Cocoon does nothing except for engraving the Cocoon at the end of the turn, it will engrave a sigil of either Gro-goroth, Vinushka or Fear & Hunger, whichever sigil is engraved the Cocoon will start using skills from that God.

The fight itself is very easy to deal with, if the head was destroyed on the first turn then the enemy will be useless, unable to do anything.

  • You can just use a Murky vial or any magical attack, since the head has 0% magic evasion you can win the fight by simply using any magic attack on the head in the first turn and then keep attacking the Cocoon until it dies.
  • In the current 1.9.1 version of the game, you can simply just Run using the skill Run which will kill the enemy if the Run was successful.

Masoχ-S/M Mode

The same strategy for Fear & Hunger Mode applies.

Player:
“Her body looks more or less human, minus the extra limbs, but the real curiosity is the cocoon that grows from the human torso... There was some movement inside the cocoon earlier, so whatever is inside, must have been alive to some extent. You have no idea what could have caused such mutation and growth.”
If Daan is in the party:
“Her body looks more or less human, minus the extra limbs, but the real curiosity is the cocoon that grows from the human torso... There was some movement inside the cocoon earlier, so whatever is inside, must have been alive to some extent. I really have no idea what could have caused such mutation and growth... Any scientific idea that is. Most likely the same shit that happened to the other people in this city happened to her too.”

Trivia

  • The cocoon is vaguely reminiscent of Anima from Final Fantasy X, while the still human part is very similar to Laura from The Evil Within.
