"The reason why I like engineering and mechanics is that it always follows a clear logic. But I just can't figure this one out!"
- Abella, when examining the train.
Abella is a playable character and a potential party member in Fear & Hunger 2: Termina. She is a mechanic, and as such is adept at crafting her own makeshift weapons and traps. Along with mechanical skills, she also understands more complicated machinery. If not dealt with properly, Abella will turn into Chaugnar due to Moonscorch on Day 1 Morning.
Lore
Despite her homeland having suffered greatly from the First Great War, Abella had a serene and balanced childhood with her parents and many siblings. While the northern capital Oldegård was rebuilding its cities in the aftermath of the destruction, news of hostilities in eastern Europa was broadcasted on the radio. Abella, being too young to participate in the defense of her borders, had to find an alternate way to contribute to her homefront. With her innate talent for mechanics and electronics, she ultimately decided to pursue these fields of study.
Abella's inherent nature, as the eldest child in her family, was to take care of those around her. However, with many of her close relatives having marched off to battle, she felt frustrated by her inability to help people more directly. Although she had already matured into adulthood, Abella's expertise in engineering made her an essential player on the disarrayed homefront. With the missing men now dying on the battlefield, it was necessary for someone to step up and cover for them, and Abella knew that no one else could. She would shoulder the burden and the increasing workload, as it was the only way to ensure that the homefront remained functional in the face of the ongoing war.
During one stormy night, Abella trudged through the rain-soaked alleyway on her way home from a long day of work. Suddenly, she noticed a foreign man who tried to run away but collapsed weakly after a few meters. Abella quickly realized that the man had been shot in the belly. Searching his possessions, she found documents indicating that he was from Rondon, one of Oldegård's allied countries. Regardless of whether she chose to assist him or not, Abella would soon discover that the man was a member of an underground resistance group called the "Nameless Liberty Underground" (NLU). The organization had been quietly brewing beneath the surface since the beginning of the first Great War and worked across Europa to thwart the advancements of both the Bremen Empire and Eastern Union. She would eventually meet with a member of NLU and talk briefly about the current situation in eastern Europa.
Abella's engineering expertise was greatly valued by the Nameless Liberty Underground (NLU) organization, which was struggling to maintain membership. They requested her to join them at their headquarters. After some time, NLU had gathered enough info to unravel parts of a large scheme. The Eastern Union was working on something ill-boding in the country of Bohemia, Prehevil and the Bremens wanted to get their hands on the project by any means possible. When the Bremen army finally occupied Bohemia, NLU sent some of their members to Prehevil, but communication was quickly lost with them. The organization decided to wait and see if their members would resurface, but Abella was not content to sit and wait. She boarded the first train to Prehevil, determined to find out what had happened, and was told if she ever needed support she would recognize the leader of the Bohemian branch of NLU from her red shoes.
But unbeknownst to her, she would play a part in a greater scheme by the trickster Moon God, Rher, as one of the 14 Termina contestants.
Personality
Abella is both a skilled and outgoing individual. She is willing to use her mechanical expertise to assist the party, though many of the horrors within Prehevil defy conventional solutions, which both puzzles and fascinates her.
Abella is quite perceptive, showing a great deal of knowledge and interest in the architecture of the various buildings in Prehevil; her reasons for studying engineering and mechanics are that it always follows a clear logic. She also has somewhat of a motherly side to her, evident by her comments towards the abandoned houses and mentioning that they could use some good housekeeping. Abella is optimistic and diplomatic with her fellow contestants. At times she can seem rather light-hearted, cracking jokes in party talks to lighten up the mood. Other times, she can be seen caring quite deeply for people such as Levi, often showing sympathy and concern for his well-being.
Though she will happily work with the other contestants while exploring the city, Abella will intentionally hide her true identity as a resistance agent from them. She will, however, admit her connections with the NLU to a suspicious Karin and the player character if both contestants are brought to the speakeasy area of PRHVL Bop.
Gameplay traits
- Has Pipe wrench and Sturdy overalls equipped.
- Has Knife, x4 Shillings and Lucky coin in inventory (if chosen as the main character).

Special event - Caligura at Mayor's Manor
Sleeping in the Mayor's Manor on Day 1 as Abella as the protagonist results in a cutscene where Caligura attempts to sexually assault her. This prompts a fight and an early in-game chance to dispatch Caligura if the player so wishes.
As a party member
If recruited, Abella will have Sturdy overalls and a Pipe wrench equipped, She will also have Wrench toss and Short circuit skills learned. Wrench toss maintains its relevance throughout the entire game as a semi-reliable way to stun enemies, while Short circuit enables her to unlock electronic doors for the player as needed. Offering support in upcoming battles, enabling easier access to specific bunker areas, and being among the first characters available for recruitment position Abella as one of the most useful party members in the game.
Restraining the player
Abella will attempt to restrain the player character on the train and the PRHVL Bop if they kill a contestant while she is present. Abella shares this behaviour with Daan, Karin, Marcoh and Tanaka. Once the player is restrained, they will be forced to surrender, as struggling effectively does nothing. After this, the player will wake up, tied up, and be unable to move or act. For a while, they will only have the option to struggle in the ropes. After struggling, they will be given the option to give up and rest, up until Day 3 Night, in which the ropes will have mysteriously untied themselves. The player will be free (albeit with a very low hunger status) and every remaining contestant will have moonscorched by then. This will not happen if Abella is currently in the party, as she will simply ignore any contestants the player kills.
Location and recruiting
Abella can be encountered on Day 1 Morning, once the player unlocks the hatch in the forest leading to Tunnel 7. Approaching the player, she insists on exploring the tunnels and can be recruited. If initially not recruited upon entering Tunnel 7, she remains inside, offering to join later. However, once declined again, recruitment becomes impossible. Abella mentions searching for train parts when spoken to. By Day 1 Night, she vanishes from Tunnel 7.
If Mayor's Manor is explored prior to encountering Abella, she will not be found upon opening the hatch, making her unrecruitable: it is impossible to meet both Abella and Henryk in their human forms in the same playthrough. This will also cause her to moonscorch into Chaugnar on Day 1 Morning.
On Day 3 Night, like all other remaining human contestants, Abella undergoes moonscorching and transforms into Chaugnar.

Strategy
Abella will use Wrench Toss every turn, which deals 38-58 blunt damage and has a 40% chance to inflict Confused. Abella also has a chance to set up a bear trap which will trigger a limb-loss coin flip if it is not dealt with properly by guarding or destroying it. Like with the other contestants, Abella will resort to simply using Tackle if her left arm is cut off.
It is not recommended to fight her unless you have decent defense, extra turns or can kill her in few turns.

Trivia
- When playing as Abella, she will start off with a completely different outfit. When getting introduced to the others, Abella will change outfits to check up on the train.
- Playing as Abella and speaking to August outside the train at the start will confirm they both come from the same region and provide unique dialogue on August's life story.
- Abella is the only character who can read the in-game notes written by passcodes. However, if the other protagonists attempt to read those notes while she is in their party, Abella will take the note to translate it and says that those notes are illegible. It might imply that she is hiding the answer from the party for a particular subject.
- Due to a potential bug, Abella can show up as alive on the train during Ending A, even if she has moonscorched.
- When creating Abella, game creator Miro Haverinen found inspiration in female characters from Japanese Role-Playing Games (JRPGs): her design draws elements from Karin Koenig from Shadow Hearts: Covenant and Aerith Gainsborough from Final Fantasy VII. Furthermore, her enemy battle sprite is modeled after the official artwork of Leila from Final Fantasy II.
- Haverinen has also stated that Abella's initial concept featured her with blonde hair, sporting a yellow shirt paired with blue denim overalls, a departure from her final design.
- In a Discord poll put up by Haverinen on which character should be made available next, Abella came out as the most desired character to be made playable, followed closely behind by Daan. Interestingly, Henryk did poorly in the poll, having the least amount of votes alongside Karin and Tanaka.
- Miro Haverinen has expressed dissatisfaction with his handling of Abella since the game's release. He believes that while there are a few lines in the game hinting at Abella's conflict, they remain quite rudimentary and his original vision for the character is not adequately represented, prompting a desire to flesh out her storyline in a future update.
