The Poe is an Enemy encountered in Fear & Hunger 2: Termina.

Location & Behaviour

In Easy(er) mode and Fear & Hunger mode the Poe encounters will only become active when the player interacts with the lamp in Dr. Kefer's Tricks & Magic basement, and in Masoχ-S/M mode they are always active.

When active:

The Poe's appearance is clearly indicated by the radio in the area flickering and producing a loud noise, triggered by getting too close to the radio. If the player leaves the map where a Poe has spawned, it will disappear from that area and be unable appear there again.

Strategy

Fear & Hunger Mode

The best way to deal with Poes is to literally just leave the screen they are in and then come back, this will make them disappear.

  • Its never worth fighting them except if you have Steal which can give you a Soul stone if you steal from them.
  • If you got caught by a Poe or wanted to fight them then keep in mind that they do nothing in the first turn, and the only attack they use is a Coin flip attack, so its very easy to deal with them if you have any party member or double turns by getting at least 16 agility, just guard with the main character and attack with the party members or on the extra turns.
  • Poes will only take damage from fists and Otherwordly attacks.
  • If a Poe used Grasp of a genie against you then every other Poe will start using it on the first turn of the battle.
  • Once stolen from any Poe, the Soul stone cannot be stolen a second time.

Masoχ-S/M Mode

The same strategy for Fear & Hunger Mode applies.

Dialogues

Talk

  • You try talking to the figure...
    • Player: “I mean no harm.”
      • The poe shrugs. It looks like it means harm regardless of your intentions.
    • Player: “What are you?”
      • The poe is moaning. Whatever that means...
    • Player: “If you're a genie, do I get to wish anything?”
      • You take it as 'no'.
    • Player: Nevermind

Interactions

This enemy doesn't have any interactions since it doesn't leave a body after its defeat.

Trivia

  • The Pinecone Pig will not trigger during any battle against the Poe.
  • The Poe is named for the Chinese (魄), a spiritual entity that lingers with the corpses of people after death.
  • Should the Poe succeed in grabbing the player, a special animation sequence plays out. The Poe will begin smashing the player character's head onto the ground three times and begin swinging them side to side on the ground. They turn the player character around, spreading their legs apart with their two hands, before they begin to roughly fist the character's rear with their fist three times, all the while moaning and laughing near the end, as the screen fades to black.
