"Even in this hellish situation, I end up cooking. And the craziest thing is that I haven't been this inspired, like ever. I'm seeing new combinations in my head, my palette is expanding thanks to all the new local ingredients... Making food like it's the last day of my life."
- Henryk, at Restaurant Bílý Vůl.

Henryk is a Non-playable Side Character and Potential Enemy in Fear & Hunger 2: Termina.

He is a former artist and talented chef, and his skills include cooking exceptionally filling meals, proficiency in using cutting tools and the ability to make improvised cooking stations. Henryk is one of the fourteen contestants arriving in Prehevil that were forced to participate in the Festival of Termina.

Lore

A chef forced to be a contestant in the Festival of Termina.

Henryk is a 32-year-old chef from the Kingdom of Rondon with an acute taste for ingredients. Not much is known about his past, but he will partially open up about how he became a chef to the player after moving to a kitchen. During his younger years, he worked at a tavern called Klimkov's which was owned by his parents, where he would help around the kitchen by cooking meals. He later became a bartender for some time, where he had a fling with a female pianist. Henryk had always dreamed becoming someone important by creating something great, whether it be a musician, artist or actor - he eventually "dipped his toes in everything", but did not take well to rejection and in the end gave up those plans.

Eventually, Henryk ran out of money, so out of necessity, he decided to return his parents' tavern where he started to cook meals again. He eventually realised that he had a great natural talent for the culinary arts, and in the end his skills flourished to the point where Klimkov's became a famous place to eat, even becoming the subject of an article in a newspaper. Now embracing this talent, he frequently travelled to find new culinary inspiration - eventually landing him in the city of Prehevil, as he seemed fascinated by local delicacies and ingredients.[1]

Personality

Henryk is very passionate about cooking food, and it is the main thing he seems to enjoy in life. He can be quite laid back but has low self-esteem, often trying to seek the approval of other contestants with his cooking and will seem devastated if anyone doesn't like it. He can also be impulsive sometimes, making perverted remarks towards Abella at the train and starting a fight with Caligura that potentially gets him killed.

As the festival progresses and the deadline approaches, he becomes increasingly anxious about the time limit mentioned by Per'kele, with the thoughts of the third day starting to consume his thoughts. He may resort to extreme measures if the opportunity presents itself...

Location

Henryk can be encountered on Day 1 Morning on the second floor of the Mayor's Manor. He will be looking aimlessly for a non-existant clock he can hear ticking while saying that he is "starving". If you talk to him several times and say "Snap out of it!", Henryk will mention looking for the town food supply. This can be found in the basement, either accessed via Lockpicking, a Small key, the Manor key or by climbing down a pale tree. If you inform Henryk of this afterwards, he will head downstairs, where he hands you the Sewer keys, and begin preparing food for everyone at the train - you can then return to the train at any time for free meals for the entire party, making hunger far easier to manage.

Note that it is impossible to meet both Abella and Henryk outside of the intro in the same playthrough, as meeting Abella by the entrance to Tunnel 7 prior to encountering Henryk will cause him to moonscorch into the Gentleman in the Mayor's Manor on Day 1 evening.

After the player visits Renka Cafe and Restaurant Bílý Vůl in Prehevil, the player can inform Henryk about either of their functioning kitchens and he will relocate himself to said place and keep cooking for the party on the player's demand. If Henryk stays at the train, he will be attacked by Caligura at the Lake on Day 2 Evening and will only survive if the player intervenes.

The player can get Henryk to move to the PRHVL Bop by telling him about it at any location or asking him "How do you like the cafe?" (Bug) at Renka Cafe. He will set up a temporary kitchen station on one of the tables in the club. However, if Henryk is at the club and the player sleeps from Day 2 night to Day 3 morning, he will have a breakdown due to the Festival's time limit and spike the food with a potent poison on Day 3 Morning, killing everyone present at the club except the player. He will then run away and moonscorch into the Gentleman, found at the Mayor's Manor.

If left at any other location, Henryk will moonscorch into the Gentleman on Day 3 night.

Strategy

"Tsk... But a flesh wound..."
- Henryk

Fear & Hunger Mode

Henryk is not too difficult to deal with, but can pose a challenge under certain circumstances. His knife arm has 20 agility, which means it gains double attacks and so can attack a second time after the player's turn. His knife slash and knife stab attacks both deal 27-39 piercing damage, the former with a 90% chance to bleed and the latter with a 60% chance to cause an infection. Like when going against any other enemy that can inflict infection, it is important that you have a cure on hand as being inflicted with it can possibly result in limb loss or death.

The most efficient strategy to deal with Henryk is to first take out his chopping arm, and then target his torso to end the fight. Since all contestant party members will be inflicted with the Hesitation debuff, you will likely need to be able to deal more than 300 damage in a single attack if you want to remove his right arm on the first turn. If you possess double attacks, his agility will likely be higher, meaning he will be able to hit you or a party member twice before you can remove that arm - so taking it out in one hit is preferred.

Masoχ-S/M Mode

Henryk cannot be fought in Masoχ-S/M mode - see the Gentleman.

Trivia

  • Henryk is a Polish male given name of Germanic origin. It means 'ruler of the home' or 'lord of the house'. The name seems appropriate for his cooking profession.
  • Henryk's dialogue changes depending on which protagonist was chosen: if you play as Abella and talk to him at the Mayor's Manor, his dialogues will be flirtatious. If you play as Marina or Levi, he will call the player character a kid.
  • If you are not playing Abella and recruit her first, Henryk will disappear on Day 1 Morning and can only be found Day 1 Evening as the Gentleman. Alternatively, if you help Henryk at the manor, Abella will disappear and mutate into Chaugnar.
  • Henryk and Daan are currently the only contestants whose moonscorched forms are lucid enough to offer goods to the player without defeating them in battle. The Gentleman will give the player character a key if he deems their dinner conversation acceptable enough and the Pocketcat can exchange wares for decapitated contestant heads.
    • Interestingly, both moonscorched forms share the similarity of preferring 'gentlemantly' behaviors. This is likely to be coincidental considering the lack of deep connections between the two, however.
  • The tavern his parents owned is called Klimkov's. That would suggest that his surname is Klimkov.[2]
  • During the beta version of the game, he used to mention his zodiac sign was Sagittarius.
  • Henyrk tells a Monty Python reference ("'tis but a flesh wound") if one of his arms is cut during a battle.
  • Game creator Miro Haverinen expressed interest in making Henryk a playable character due to his unremarkable nature: as Henryk as one of the most everyday individuals alongside Tanaka, developing diverse gameplay for him would be challenging.
