Father Hugo, also known as Donnovan Hugo, is a Boss encountered in Fear & Hunger 2: Termina.

Lore

Father Hugo is a well-known figure in the realm of occultism, renowned for his knowledge of the otherwordly. He is the author of "God manifesto", a short manifesto about his views of godhood. Rumors surrounding him have captured the imagination of people, speculating about his remarkably long lifespan that spans several centuries. Some conjecture that this longevity could be attributed to a vampiric nature or his purported practice of bathing in the blood of newborn infants.

Father Hugo's true intentions are currently unexplained. However, it is revealed that his house harbors a collection of scattered journals, hinting at a deep fascination with Ma'habre. This fascination seems to have been sparked by a vivid dream induced by reading a particular book. Within the pages of these journals, Father Hugo's focus becomes apparent: he becomes fixated on the return of a long-lost king and the unification of people under the sun.

Furthermore, it appears that Father Hugo was in the process of relocating from Prehevil at the time when the events of Fear & Hunger 2: Termina transpire. Many of his belongings are packed away in boxes.

Location

  • Father Hugo can be found on the second floor of the Orphanage

Strategy

Fear & Hunger Mode

Father Hugo will strip off his clothing and cast Scorched earth, which will give all combatants a large vulnerability to fire. This applies to the boss as well, so applying burn can be very helpful. Since the burning damage is expected, it is highly recommended to unequip any fire-vulnerable items and equip any fire-resistant items. Typically two or three fire attacks will be enough to kill him after he has used Scorched earth due to his low torso health.

The battle can be avoided by simply using any firearms against him in the overworld. Hugo can be eliminated with a large number of bullets (18 pistol bullets, or 9 rifle rounds or shells). It is safe to do so, since he will taunt at the player until he is defeated, although not recommended since the player might need the ammo elsewhere.

  • The priest makes a sign of a cross with his hands moving from one shoulder to another, then to his stomach, and finally to his forehead.
    • Player: [PERSUADE] “Even the most devout priest has a price... What can I offer?”
      • If player has a Rust-coloured pearl
      • The priest is eyeing your Rust-coloured pearl with a wide grimace...
        • Player: “You want this? You can have it.”
          • Cautiously you roll the pearl to the priest. His eyes are fixated on the thing as it rolls slowly closer.
            • Player: Use this chance to attack him (+Hesitation)
            • Player: Let him have the pearl (Battle end, currently doesn't work)
        • Player: “Forget it.”
          • The priest's expression turn into that of annoyment. You managed to evoke at least some emotion from him. (+Furious)
      • If repeated:
      • The priest's face doesn't even flinch. Like a robot, he keeps on walking towards you with a steady pace.
      • If player doesn't have a Rust-coloured pearl
      • The priest has a blank expression on his face. Your persuasion efforts have gone to waste.
    • Player: [INTIMIDATE] “Your god won't help you here.”
      • His eyes show great determination and belief in butchering you like a pig. In other words, your threats have no effect.
    • Player: “Please stay away!”
      • The priest's face doesn't even flinch. Like a robot, he keeps on walking towards you with a steady pace. There is no bargaining with him.
    • Player: “Holyman, can you explain me what's going on here?”
      • His expression doesn't change in the slightest. He keeps on walking towards you one step at a time.
    • Player: “Yes, you better make your prayers.”
      • His eyes show great determination and belief in butchering you like a pig. In other words, your threats have no effect.

Trivia

  • Father Domek, not Father Hugo, serves as the headmaster of St. Domek's Orphanage, even though Father Hugo possesses a key to the premises. The Orphanage is administered by Father Domek, and it is named after him. Given that both individuals are employed by the church, it is highly likely that they are acquainted with one another.
  • God manifesto suggests that the dark priest Father Hugo views as biased, despite his significant recognition within occult circles, could potentially be Enki, as his Skin Bibles represent one of the few sources of information on Old Gods that can be discovered throughout the game.
  • In an earlier design, the undressed version of Father Hugo was supposed to have a Fallen cherub face popping out from his left side, on his ribs -- implying more horrific deeds done in the Orphanage in the name of Sylvian.
  • If Father Hugo uses Scorched Earth during the fight, his room becomes scorched, burning the contents of both the chest and the bookshelf.
