Phobias

Phobias are a mechanic present in both Fear & Hunger and Fear & Hunger 2: Termina. They are a randomized gameplay element that affects how each player performs in combat.

Mechanics

In both games, the majority of characters are assigned a regular Phobia at random, with an equal likelihood of any regular Phobia being selected. When confronted by an enemy who triggers a character's specific Phobia, that character becomes more susceptible to harm and less capable of dodging incoming attacks. The specific penalties imposed on characters in each game, however, exhibit slight variations.

In most instances, permitting the Mind stat to reach zero will result in a character having their initial Phobia replaced by Panophobia, a condition that essentially amalgamates all regular Phobias into a single, all-encompassing fear. Which characters are susceptible to developing Panophobia varies between the two games.

The Phobias featured in both games are identical and include the following:

Phobia Definition Appears in
Nosophobia Fear of disease and contamination. F&H2
Necrophobia Fear of the undead. F&H1
Phasmophobia Fear of ghosts and ghastly figures. Both games
Rhabdophobia Fear of magic and otherworldly powers. Both games
Erotophobia Fear of sex and genitals. Both games
Zoophobia Fear of animals and beasts. Both games
Teratophobia Fear of monsters and malformations. Both games
Panophobia Fear of everything. Both games

Phobias in Fear & Hunger

  • Phobia status in Fear & Hunger causes -50% Evasion Rate, +50% physical damage received.
    • Many enemy skills that appear physical in nature do not deal physical damage and are guaranteed to hit, thus being unaffected by phobia statuses.
  • Cahara, D'arce, Enki, Ragnvaldr, Le'garde, and the girl will have a randomly assigned regular Phobia at the start of each run. They are also prone to developing Panophobia at zero Mind.
  • Ghouls, Skeletons, Moonless, Nas'hrah and the Demon Kid do not bear assigned Phobias and are exempt from developing Panophobia.
  • Turning the protagonist into a Marriage or a Marriage (Fusion) will erase a character's Phobia, as well as turning them immune to Panophobia.
