"It's so quiet. No one could probably hear you scream from here..."

The White Mold Apartments is a location in Fear and Hunger 2: Termina.

Lore

This mysterious location was once a normal apartment building, before being entirely covered in a white, rubbery and crusty mold-like substance that has affected everything in the structure. Although there is no clear evidence as to what led to the spread of the mold, it is heavily implied the phenomenon is somehow related to both the Sulfur God and a mass murder that took place there - a Sulfur God Sigil can be found in Apartment 4 along with the diary of the killer, and the spirit of one of the victims found on floor 3 will mention that 'the servant of Sulfur' used them as 'sacrificial lambs'.

Location

The apartments are located in Prehevil - Back Alleys, directly south of the passage to Prehevil - Shopping Street, or north from the passage to Prehevil - Staircase if the wooden gate has been unlocked.

Gameplay

When entering the apartments, after walking a few steps forward the front door will seal shut behind you without any option to break it open. You won't be able to open the door or leave until you obtain the Fellatio effigy in the Rher dimension, so make sure to be prepared before entering.

The Rher dimension can be entered by climbing through a washing machine leaking blood in the basement, but it will have a padlock with a 4 number code keeping it sealed shut. You can open the washing machine by either forcing the lock off, or by finding the code for it (the code will be randomized each playthrough).

Finding the code for the padlock

The TV in the room on floor 1 will play a news broadcast featuring Karin, who reports that there was a mass murder in the apartment block and mentions the room numbers of each of the victims. The code for the washing machine will be the room numbers of each of the victims, in the order of who was killed first to last. The order of the murders can be discovered two ways: by using the Talking board in the floor 3 bathroom to communicate with the spirit of one of the victims, or from the killer's plan in the Diary of a madman which can be found in room 4, accessible by breaking the floor in the apartment above with the horsehead statue. The spirit will tell you the room numbers of the victims in order, but the diary will instead describe the victims in order, leaving you to match the contents of their rooms to the numbers:

  • "The one who talks only to her plants." (The apartment with an abundance of plants, Room #2)
  • "The girl who keeps me up at night. The songbird that utters her last whimpers." (The apartment with musical instruments, Room #6)
  • "The lunatic that raves about the moon and stars to all days end." (The apartment that contains the statue, the telescope and the celestial drawings on the floor, Room #9)
  • "His puppets will bear witness to his bloodletting". (The apartment with many dolls, Room #11)
  • "The foolish braggart who just moved in." (The apartment full of boxes, Room #13)

NPCs

  • Daan (Found sitting on a chair in Room 4 of Floor 2, on Day 2.)
  • Tanaka (Day 3 Morning, in Rher dimension if Giant is present. Otherwise, in Room 10 of Floor 3.)
  • Spirit (After using the Talking board in the 3F bathroom.)

Enemies

  • 2 Neighbours (The Neighbours have a 1 in 3 chance of appearing after entering any apartment - 1 can be found on floor 2 and another on floor 3.)
  • Giant (In Rher dimension)
  • Judgement (In Rher dimension)

Trivia

  • If the player watches the TV with Karin in the party, she will claim she never recorded that broadcast. If playing as Karin, the player will receive a similar dialogue. As other Termina contestants have Doppelgängers mimicking them during the festival, there is a possibility that this broadcast was recorded by a double of Karin.
  • If the player intends to use the Talking board on the third floor, the player must first enter the room with dolls in it (Room 11), and notice the crib with a doll in it rock back and forth. It will then direct the player to the bathroom on the same floor. Using the talking board prior to this will not have an effect anywhere in the apartments.
  • The moldy apartments are based on a nightmare the game's creator, Miro Haverinen, had during the development of Fear & Hunger 2: Termina. [1]
